LaPrairie (population 611) borders both the Mississippi and Prairie rivers. It has the best of both large and small town advantages-larger lot sizes, but located next to Grand Rapids. Children attend District 316 Greenway and District 318 Grand Rapids schools.

City Government:

City Hall: (218-326-8898) 15 Park Drive, LaPrairie, MN 55744. City Hall hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, closed noon to 1 p.m. The council meets the first and third Monday of the month at 7 p.m. in City Hall.

Business: 13 businesses, two retail, and two financial institutions.

Major Employers: Pepsi Bottling Company (326-1271), Sandstrom’s (326-2926), God’s Country Ice (326-3967) and L&M Supply (326-2926). LaPrairie is home to the Second Harvest North Central Food Bank (326-4420).

Recreation: Ryan Park for baseball/softball field, basketball court, playground, picnic, tennis, hockey/skating rink; marked snowmobile trails connecting to Highway 2.

Utilities: Grand Rapids Public Utilities electric (326-7024), Lake Country Power (326-6671), Aquila (1-800-303-0752, 24-hour emergency 1-800-303-0357), sanitary sewer and water through the city of LaPrairie.
